Roof Racks for a Car with a Bare Roof?

Do you need roof racks but have a bare roof with no form of rails or adapters? I was recently in the same exact situation and after some research, I found a few options you might want to look at!

If you are new to my channel, I love kayak fishing so I obviously need roof racks. Check out a few options below:

Thule makes racks which fit most models (as do the other brands) but they were the only ones who had a roof rack system available for a 2020 Chevy Equinox. That’s why I went with them!

You’re a saint for explaining all of this so I don’t have to lose my mind doing more research

Nice! I have a 2018 with no rails. Finally a review that is worthwhile!

So that's how that is pronounced... I thought it was Thule like if Thanos and pool had a baby.

Thanks for this video. I actually bought two kayaks while on vacation last year with a 13 hour drive ahead of me and a bare roof. The sporting goods personnel put two large pool noodles on my car,  shrink wrapped the two Perception kayaks together, strapped them down with ratchet straps through my doors and off we went! lol  I'll order the Thule today since we're headed back to that same vacation spot in three weeks.

Thank you. I'm in exactly the same situation. Mazda gave me an IOU for roof rails for my 2022 CX5 because they don't have them yet. Summer is here and I want to go Kayaking. I can't wait around any longer. Looking to buy something like this.

I’m still using the foam block set that you can get almost anywhere. Honestly it works for me. It’s quick and easy and doesn’t damage my roof

Thanks for this just got my kiddos a 2023 GMC Terrain and was scratching my head on how to get my daughters bike

Rhino Rack also makes them . All are expensive though. Foam blocks are a cheap and easy option if you only have one kayak

Yes! Great topic, thanks so much for sharing. I've been going back and forth on roof rack solutions. I'm currently doing the foam block route which works ok but it takes a while to get everything setup and secure.

just what I was looking for! Thanks some days I don't feel like towing the ranger and wanted something I could attach to my civic and throw the yak on top and not spend so much on gas. Thanks for the vid!

Wow! Transport can be an issue, ESPECIALLY with no roof rack/crossbar system already in place. Great video Ethan! This will definitely help people who have no mounting options on their sedan or SUV. Looks like Thule has you covered for just about every vehicle under the sun and those mounts looked rock solid.

I was a bit leery about the straps-and-suction mount on that Malone rack, but it has performed just fine, usually hauling two 12-foot sit-on-tops, which is a hefty load.

Great video, very helpful. I too have a vehicle with no roof rack and have been checking out the options. I’ll check out the Thule.

I didn't exhaust myself looking to see if the subject of the door opening ring is designed. Check to see if GM has one in parts and accessories. My Sonic had them available. In this case there is a specific feature on the door opening that allows a better clamping area. ( i am a former GM designer)

I have a 2012 Honda CRV with no rails on top. I am looking at the Thule site and I am confused. I looked the the link you provided and the Thule site only shows the locking clamp, but everything else is considered an accessory. Am I reading this right?

I had a trailer hitch on my car already. I bought a second hand small utility trailer. My PDL kayak weighs 96 lbs and I'm 70 yrs old! I put boondox wheels on my kayak, so I can just roll it on and off my trailer. LOL works great for an ol geezer!
