Saw the 'Vasa' in about 1988. She was then ensconced in her museum with constant spraying of Glycol. Magnificent!

Were there any impact on the wars from the loss of Vasa?

What I do not understand is that why the location of the ship had to be rediscovered? It was right in front of them all the time, and the port was frequently used over the centuries. I understand that they had technology, money and intention to bring it up only in the 1950's, but I do not believe that a city like Stockholm doesn't know what is in it's port's water :)
