Citroen C5 X review – Is It Really That Good? | batchreviews

I was blown away by the new Citroen C5 X when I drove it in Spain last year. But did the Spanish sun get to my head? Can I honestly say this is still one of my favourite cars?

To find out, I asked Citroen if I could borrow one for three weeks to really get to know it. Here's what I found in this real-world review.

If I look a bit familiar then you might have seen me on Carbuyer and Auto Express YouTube channels.

Got my brand new plugi-in hybrid few days ago and have to say that I'm really impressed by the car and its ride.

I own the C5X as 224 HO hybrid version since a few weeks now. I am really happy with it, I can't confirm the critic on the gearbox. Works just extreme smooth and accurate. The car is so silent, you can hardly notice the difference when it switches from electric to conventional drive. Even without loading the battery I could reach a useage of 5, 3 l/100km, there is an intelligent algorythm to charge the battery when the car is rolling, breaking or going downhill and use this savings for the next acceleration.

Thank you !! I was looking exactly for this 1.2 model and there were no reviews of it! Only the hybrid. Great work!

I am looking at buying a Volvo S60 next year but the thing which puts me off is the infotainment screen, this Citroen might go at the top of the list.

Can't for the life of me understand why the D segment is dying out in Europe. Why would I choose a heavier car, with a higher center of gravity, so less stable, over a streamlined and beautiful sedan? To be able to park it on the pavement? What other advantages does this crossover/fastback/SUV form offer? They're not even roomier than a standard sedan, most of the time they have awfully small boots. And don't tell me they offer better protection in case of an accident, that's an urban myth basically.

I own 1.2 feel pack for about 3 months by now. It was a showroom car sitting at the dealership for about a year. First of all, car has enough power, no worries about if 1.2 is enough for this car. It is!

At first, the jerky behavior of the gearbox was quite annoying, and sometimes it was knocking when slowing down from 40 to 30 kmh without throttle, downshift from 4 to 3. Maybe I get used to it, maybe i learnt how to command the throttle pedal properly but it feels smoother now. Also knocking is not here for the past month, maybe that was a break in period problem.

Start stop system is quote annoying. First of all it is not as smooth as the PSA cars with manual transmission.

Sometimes it shuts off the engine after you stop, in this case Automatic transmission with engaged torque converter still pulls the car forward so you need more brake power to bring the car to stop. It sometimes shuts off the engine 1 second before you stop the car, in this case the brake power you apply comes too much (since the engine is not pulling the car) and you end up with a hard jerky stop...

To sum up, start stop kicks in whenever you don't need it, like a 1 second stop in a junction, it shuts off the engine. But whenever I really need it like a 60 seconds red light, it is not there :D It also shortens the lifespan of the engine/transmission, better to disable it whenever you sit in the car and only enable it when you will stop on a long red light. I wish there was a physical button for that rather than going into car settings menu, leaving carplay/android auto.

Excellent review as ever Batch. You’re so even handed, which is so refreshing.

I have the 1.2 Sense Plus.Very happy with my car.The 1.2 enjine has more than enough power & still sounds refined & quiet.A much cheaper option to.

One thing not covered is the price. You can pick one up new for 25 grand new if you shop around. It's a lot of car for the money.

Good little video. When such a car (130 PS 1500 kg plus) is empty, I guess the performance is pretty decent. When fully laden, it will only be OK….. but you will get used to it.

4:29 IMHO, the absence of a rear wiper borders on negligence. That reason alone would have this car off my list of potentials. The car is a nice design, but 5:02 the strips, although practical, remind me of a hearse. 5:46 Not sure what the justification is to declare that "keyless entry hardly ever works in most cars". If I need to check whether my car is locked, I glance at the mirrors to see if they are folded. Simples.
