Worst explanation of a singularity I've ever heard. Here: Imagine 3 dimensional space, existing over time. In a sigularity all of the surrounding 3D space has collapsed to a point so small it's " infinitesimally, " small, or seeming to reduce in size, or travel inward infinitely (this is what he meant when he said "the equations begin to run away, " because when you try to define its size with mathematics the numbers just keep getting bigger, forever). So it's called a "singularity" because space and time are collapsed into one SINGLE, indefinably small area. This is likely how the matter that would become "the big bang" accumulated, as the result of a "singularity."
