"Dunces the lot of them!" Columbo was brilliant here in smoking out Theodore Bikel's character by 'not' taking credit for his demonstration.

It's a very Good example of: His Pride &/or Ego going before His Fall.

The editing on this scene is incredible! The build up, the pay off. Everything pitch perfect.

I like this one for its wealth of ancillary characters. And here again, we see our villain hoist upon the petard of his own "perfect" alibi.

The first Columbo movie I ever saw and, to date, my favorite. A great story in the classic trappings of a murder mystery: a library in an old, elegant house filled with eccentric characters.

Theodore Bikel's Wylie E. Coyote got outsmarted by Columbo's Roadrunner

This gotcha was SO memorable that is it the only one I remembered from when it was first aired in 1977! What made it stand out was the use of the "Sir Marks-A-Lot" marker - I had the same marker!

Love that. I wonder if the Brooklyn 99 episode was based off this, where the killer with the perfect cover up and pure arrogance for coming up with such a genius plan outs himself like an idiot because his weak point was his ego.

The embodiment of how pride comes before a fall.

I keep hearing Columbo say:

“Mayonnaise wants to kill Man B.” @ 0:06

As usually, Columbo uses "Judo principle" - don't fight the strength of your opponent, use it against him.
Just figure out how to get them in a position where it works against them.

One of the best endings to an episode ever…. just fantastic

This ending would have worked better with witnesses, like in Negative Reaction.

This series has the best "Oh wow, I'm screwed" faces in television.

I loved the vibe of this episode. I kind of found the tickling thing a little off-putting 😆, but otherwise, one of my favorites. 👍

I watched so many of the Columbo episodes and this is my favorite. So well done. It is always good to see, has a special quality like the "This Ole Man" music.
