You would think that by this point Columbo had such an incredible reputation that someone involved in the police force would keep their crimes the hell away from him.

Imagine the genius of the story writers who came up with these plots and endings.

I love the little detail of Columbo saying "commissioner, I believe we're going to need a warrant before we search that apartment" not only because he wants to make sure Halperin's fallen into his trap, but because legally it's HIS apartment so he would need to be served with the warrant himself.

"I don't even live here!" I use that line whenever i can, even when it has nothing to do with the situation i may be in.

Richard Kiley was a magnificent actor with immense on-screen presence and intensity. He was the absolutely perfect choice for this role, and that's why he portrayed Commissioner Halperi so brilliantly. RIP Richard and Peter - you're both sadly missed.

I love it when Columbo starts to get mad as he nails the culprit. Points the cigar or a finger as his voice gets direct and accusatory. What a classic show this was and Peter Falk IS Columbo.

You watch this In 2022 and you realise how great this series was. Peter Falk owned the character and the writing was great. The impressive list of guest stars through the run was amazing.

it would have been epic if Commissioner Halperin had been in a few episodes before this one so it would have been a shock to find out he was a murderer.

there are a lot of crime shows but Columbo is the only one that's timeless, it never gets old

My favorite Columbo. It was so brilliant how he took down his own boss. The big money line: "Hey, I don't even live here!"

I love that moment at the end of every episode when Columbo drops his act and straight up says “I believe you killed your wife, sir…”

"Commissioner, I believe you're making a mistake here, sir"

Well you can't say he didn't warn him...

This episode helped me to understand Columbo's true superpower: bureaucracy. We forget that cops who achieve rank are very much bureaucrats. As such, they know their system very well indeed. Here, Columbo used the bureaucracy's lever to topple a police commissioner...quite possibly the biggest catch of his career.

Loved this episode. What an irredeemable miscreant the commissioner was. Columbo was again, dignified, principled, valiant and incorruptible.

Commissioner Halperin should have known not to put Lieutenant Columbo on the case, he got exactly what he deserved!!! 👍👍

Love how Columbo doesn’t back down when Halperin tells him he’s lost his badge. There’s no way Halperin could have bumped Columbo off without himself falling. It was an empty threat and Columbo knew it, and he keeps chasing after the commissioner.

How Columbo leads the murderer to self incrimination is awesome and priceless.
