Calculus 1, Class 8, 17 Feb 2021. Start by going through Quiz 1 on linear functions, exponential functions, and function composition. Summarize the nature of the graphs of power functions and polynomial functions (based on the degree and sign of the leading coefficient), including the end behavior as x goes to plus or minus infinite (also briefly talk about dominance for power functions as x goes to plus infinity). Given a graph, find a formula for a quartic (4th degree) polynomial that fits the data. Expand the factored form out to find the answer in standard form and describe the end behavior. Given a rational function in factored form, determine the intercepts, vertical asymptotes, and horizontal asymptote. Use Mathematica to confirm the answer.
