1910 Aermotor 8 Stroke Engine (hit and miss) First Run

Показать описание
This Aermotor is on it's first long run after endless adjustments, proper spring tensions and timing and all new fasteners with the proper square nuts from the factory ( I used gun blue acid to give them the old patina).
I'm running it on canned 50-1 premix (Tru-fuel) to keep the rings happy while they break in so it smokes a bit.
If I run it any slower it only stays running for a minute or two.
The engine fires about 3-4 degrees before TDC which makes it run smooth.
The muffler exhaust comes out towards the engine which made them oily and covered in soot.

Ive seen a lot of engines in my time but I have to say, this is the first one like this I ever saw.

It doesn’t look like this is an 8 stroke engine but it runs on the hit n miss cycle. The Ignition system was fascinating

I need a 6 hour video of this little beauty.

Out of all the engines I've ever seen, this is one of them.

We had the best and brightest engineers back then. Imagine the casting, machining, and fabricating of just the gears. Mind you without computers. It's amazing really. 👏love this kind of stuff

Ah, yes. We arrive at the 1910 Aermotor 8-Stroke Engine (hit and miss). Also widely-known in the 8-stroke engine world as the “happy panting dog” engine. Fact. Classic.

Some of the, " Hit & miss engines" were equipped with governors and depending on the load could go 12 or more cycles before firing!

This is the very first I have ever heard of a 8 stroke engine. Very cool.

Great to hear this 👍. I used to go to steam fairs and see such as this working something 😉 BRILLIANT 🙂.

I've heard 'hit and miss' motors before, but this is the first I've ever seen one. You've forced me to go and look further into these.... Curse you for piquing my curiosity! But thanks for all the camera angles showing the cams and the workings of it

Great job on a unique engine. Seeing the smug pots in the background sure brings back memories.

Is this the big block version? Just joking what a lovely thing and such a lovely sound. Glad it's survived.

That thing is way cool! Thanks for sharing.

That's so cool. The engine is effectively "panting" to cool itself off and only closing the valve to fire when the governor calls for power.🤔😀👍
