You gotta remember the following things: this show was out when people could take a joke and not get butthurt over everything, supposedly quite a few of the insults actually came from the women on the shows.

He got away with it because people weren't so easily offended back when it aired. Even though there was a "Karen" that tried to get the show cancelled, it only increased viewership. One of the cast (don't remember which one) said that they sent her Christmas cards every year

This is back when we new a joke was just a joke. We had a since of humor.

Some of the overweight women who played customers in the shoe store were comediennes who used jokes about their weight as a part of their own acts. So getting to be a guest actress on this show was an extra paycheck plus more exposure for their regular gigs.

I loved the show. That was in the day when people could laugh instead of becoming a Karen or Kevin!!

Genius, writing They could still do a show like this today.. If they really wanted to ....back, then people were complaining about it being too rough to.. had lots of criticism.. But they didn't let it stop them

Omg this is hilarious. You are right, I doubt we would see this today on a show but back then it was priceless. It is up there with "All in the Family". Thanks so much for the memories😊

"Don't try to understand women. Women understand women and they all hate each other." - A. Bundy You should also find some Sanford and Son clips. The one with Fred in traffic court, and anything with Fred and Aunt Esther fighting are gold. There is no way that the shows I enjoyed back in the 70's would be made today. So freakin' funny.

You did not have the cry babies like today. We could say anything and people could laugh at ourselves and laugh at each. Everyone got a long. Now we are a sissy world

I remember the first time I heard them say a joke on this show, and it shocked the heck out of me, too. And that was back then. Even then this show was a shock to the system. But after seeing it a few times it just cracked me up and I took it in stride. It was hilarious!

If you really want to see a sitcom that wouldn't stand a chance on TV today, you should check out All in the Family. Archie Bunker was so savage

The way he was getting away with saying it was called free speech. I know you probably don't understand, but it used to be a thing.

He was so sharp and savage with his insults

I used to love _Married With Children_ back in the day, and I've been recently re-watching the show. It's refreshing that someone can make a fat joke and it not be taken as some sort of hate crime.

It was the 1980s, and Fox was literally a brand-new network. This provided the perfect conditions for this show to thrive.
