How to use FileZilla FTP Client - Tutorial

In this tutorial you will learn how to get started with using FileZilla as your FTP Client. First there will be a brief overview of the interface and then you'll learn how to setup and connect your host's server to Filezilla. Most, if not all, hosts come with their own FTP manager but FileZilla has long been one of the most used and respected FTP Clients (free and otherwise) available. I highly recommend FileZilla.

This is a little out of my realm but...I have a few questions from what I gather. Have you given filezilla a port range in the passive mode settings? (50000-51000) ... Forward the port range to your router to avoid firewall blocking them? (or disable firewall all together)

I'm not sure what your asking exactly. Is there firewall restricting you from connecting to your host? It might be trying to use multiple connections from the same ip address. You should do a google search for "reducing simultaneous connections for incorrectly configured servers" to maximize the number of ip connections to reduce the restrictions.

Your Welcome! I think you can upload any type of file you want via ftp but some servers will delete certain types of files automatically (so not exactly lol) but you should be ok with the HTML5 audio formats - mp3 and ogg.

What languages is the site using? If it requires a database and not just a browser, you can use "MAMP" (mac) "WAMP" (windows) to test it right on your computer without it being on the web! I have a video on mamp but it's with Wordpress.
You can do html5 audio on your browser.

Thanks for the tutorial video! Would this same method work when setting up a streaming of media/music files to a mp3 player embedded on a site? Would the site have to be published in order to upload files and do a test run of the player?

I am trying to use FileZilla to transfer files to WAMP. I'm working on a WordPress site and cant upload my theme in the usual way so was advised to use FileZilla instead. But I can't seem to connect. I'm using my local IP address and I'm not sure about my username and password. phpMyAdmin tells me user is 'root' but that doesnt work either.
Any advice?

The client transfers and receives files to and from the server while the server actually stores/hosts the files that are being sent and received. Have you installed the filezilla server on a local server you've set up on your machine? There are a bunch or network configuration issues it could be with firewall restrictions if your connecting to your local area network.

What host are you using to login? Make sure you have the correct ftp username and password which is separate from your actual hosting account login information.

Hey there, you get this from your host and make sure you are using your FTP username and password from your host - not your regular login information.

Thanks, this was very helpful!  I'd say one key thing I learned from this process is that my host uses different numbers.  I had to find the specific number used for ftp, where I thought I should just be using my account login info.

Is there a way where you can schedule FileZilla to retrieve all files from a folder on an FTP site (maybe every 10 minutes), copy them to your local computer,  and then delete them from the host?

I have an apache2 server on ubuntu and don't remember creating a password or username for it. It the FTP password the same as the MySQL password? What about the username? I'm confused as to what I am using for the username and password in fileZilla.
