Protecting your capital is much more important than making money. Basically because if you lose your capital, making money is much harder. ''Missing the train'' vs. ''losing your money''. There are a lot of trains, but if your money is gone, it's over. This is for stock holders.

Two thinks I've learned about economics:

1. 90% of the problems are caused by people's greed and them freaking out when they *think* something might happen and proceed to make it worse.

2. The only people who know less about the economy than regular people are economists.

Pretty sure the crash is a knock-on effect from Japan raising interest rates from 0% to 0.25%, rather than US recession fear (although that definitely exacerbated the drop)

This market drop was actually caused by people trying to sell investments to pay back debt in Yen. Basically, because debt was so cheap in Japan, investors began borrowing in Yen, converting it to USD and investing it. Japan then raised interest rates causing the Yen to go up in value, and there was a panic sale because people were afraid that they would lose billions based purely off of paying the exchange rate on their debt.

Literally nothing about the market actually changed. That is why the market basically has recovered over the last 2 days. This was a hilarious buying opportunity for people who had actual cash because the drop was caused by people trying to pay back debt.

As someone who works on the retail side of the stock market. The funniest part is that for the last year and a half people would only talk about "how the market would collapse any day now!" and now we got a market correction and everyone is now acting like they didnt know the market could turn red.
