I was 13 when this version came out and gave me a whole new perspective on the works of Mr. William Shakespeare from the vision of a new teen who could identify with the family dynamics of forbidden love. This was beautifully conceived and executed and remains my favorite version of all those I have seen.

My all-time favorite movie is Zeffirelli's Romeo & Juliet. Even my hard-boiled boyfriend at the time liked it, much to his surprise and probably chagrin. 1968 is a long time ago so it will in some ways seem "dated" to younger people. The sound and picture quality isn't what we're used in 2019 but Shakespeare is Shakespeare and Zeffirelli made him very proud. Zeffirelli's Romeo & Juliet is a truly classic film.

I was in 8th grade when this movie came out-and we were all in love with Olivia and Leonard-I think it is the best movie production of this classic story. And it made a lot of high schoolers watch Shakespeare lol!!

I just watched the '36 version, and I was cringing the whole time. I don't think any other version can compare to this one. This one is brilliant, and John McEnery as Mercutio was excellent. And, all the actors put much more emotion into their characters in the '68 version. :)

I too was 13 when this movie came out. I saw it first in my brother in law's theatre.Which was kind of small, and I cried so hard everyone in the place laughed at me. I did not care. This is my favorite movie ever. I saw it eight times in theatre and many, many times once I bought the DVD. I cry every time. ROMEO 💏JULIET.

MisterDumbNuts, IF you EVER have seen THIS 1968 Version of Romeo & Juliet, you would see that there is NO NEED to remake this film. For the 1968 Classic version comes second to NONE! It already IS THE PERFECT R&J Film. Thanks to the Great Cast and passionate & excellent Director & Producer, Franco Zeffirelli. This movie ranks an Seriously!
