The avgeek community has been looking out to this day for a long time, but today Air Canada has finally operated the inaugural flight of the brand new Airbus A220-300. When Air Canada bought the aircraft type back in 2016, it was still called the Bombardier C Series CS300. No matter what it's called, the A220 is an amazing aircraft!

Route: YYC-YUL
Flight Number: AC318
Airline: Air Canada
Aircraft: Airbus A220-300 (Bombardier CS300)
Aircraft registration: C-GROV
Seat: 19A (Preferred Seat)

Great Trip! The IFE looked much more responsive than the Delta version...I really liked the PIP. I didn't see that on DL? Working on my DL A220-100 flight right now...

Really awesome! I first went on the AC A220 this Sunday from Montreal to Toronto and it really was my best flight ever! I also got a chance to see the cockpit which is a wonderful sight! No doubt this is the best single-aisle aircraft operating in Canada now!

Interesting report, and no you are absolutely correct to question why your food took so long. I ordered the Mac N' cheese too... but on the inaugural flight from YUL-YYC. The male flight attendant who was manning the Bistro cart had not checked his passenger manifest so he had no clue I had paid for the Bistro meal and snack up front. He almost looked disappointed when he checked his print out and then looked up at the overhead bin to identify my seat number and show himself he was remiss. It was not like every second passenger had prepaid for a Bistro meal. He warned me that it would take 30 minutes to heat up the Mac N' cheese as if to dissuade me from my decision. I said I was fine with the 30 minute wait. An hour and a half later, I went to the rear galley to check on my order. The female flight attendant was in the back galley freshening up her makeup and I interrupted her to ask if she knew anything about my order. She sheepishly opened the oven door and pulled out the lonely box of Mac N cheese, then offered that the male flight attendant forgot who ordered it. I guess the two rear flight attendants weren't about to get on the PA and ask for the owner of the Mac N Cheese to please identify themselves as that would give away their poor service to the In-charge up front and to the many Corporate Air Canada staff on board the inaugural flight from YUL-YYC. I thought Air Canada would put their "A" team of flight attendants on this flight but the male and female that were on the inaugural from YUL-YYC manning the back end of the A220 were definitely the B team. I would assume you had the same economy cabin attendants for the YYC-YUL leg. My first trip to the back end of the A220 to use the washroom, the B team had the one vacant lav completely blocked with the 2 service carts and were indifferent to notice the passenger waiting to use the Lav as they were chatting. The "Points guy" came up behind me and asked why I was waiting for the lav as the one was vacant and I had to tell him, look the 2 service carts are blocking the lav door. Only then did the B Team of flight attendants move the 2 carts so I could use the lav.

I think this proves you can have a beautiful new aircraft but if you staff it with a B team in the back end...it cancels out the tremendous investment made to improve your product. I also agree with your observation that it is really too bad that Air Canada cheaped out on the lavs in favour of more revenue seats. Given the choice between an Air Canada A220 and a Delta A220 on the same route.... I'd be definitely adding to my Skymiles account.

Fantastic trip report! AC's A220's look great. Looks like they've improved their economy product on this plane. I enjoyed how you included the Captain's introduction at the beginning. A two hour delay is not too bad for winter - I had 4 hours in December! Well done again!
