Everyone seems to be asking what he does with all the money he earns, which is a good question. I'd like to think he throws the coins in the river wishing for a new job or revenge on Heracles, you choose.

Even death isn't free.
If that isn't terrifying I don't know what is, lol.

I read a modern fanfic about Persephone joining the Underworld, and in it, she asks what he does with the coins. When he was done for the day, he poured them onto the ground where they were absorbed like water. After he said they, along with the gems, wooden beads, etc, were being returned to the Underworld, she realized that they were seeds, laying the foundation for new veins, etc. That reason's my favorite and it's basically turned into my headcanon.

Some Irish still put coins on the eyes of the dead for their payment. :)

In the original Clash of the Titans, I think they just referred to him as The Ferryman. He's always been a special entity to me. Worthy of great respect.

Can just imagine Charon rowing along calling "Bring out your dead!"

In Charons interaction with Heracles, I always viewed it as part of building up Heracles, that he could do things other demigods and even gods could not. Only the smartest or strongest could influence the crossing of the river. The exception, by nature had to be...exceptional. (And old Herc, he weren't the smartest)
