My immediate reaction to the cruising duck scenario is that now the scammers know your home address because they shipped the ducks to it, and they know the dates that you will not be at said address because you’re a part of the cruise group that is defined by a specific ship and travel date.

In Costa Maya, the local guy that rented me a golf cart warned about a scam at restaurants where you order from the menu, but the bill is higher. When you ask for the menu again, they give you a different menu with higher prices. He said to take a pic of the menu you order from in case that happens so you can prevent that scam.

As you said, no one should ever carry something across a border, onto a plane, train, cruise ship, etc. that has been received from a stranger. This is too easy of a setup to become an unwitting mule.

My wife and I just returned from a cruise 2/16/24. We watched ever one of your videos since we were new to cruising. They all were extremely helpful in our journey. Thanks for making these helpful videos. We learned very much.

A tip for all travelers is don't announce that you will be gone for vacation on social media. In doing so you are letting people know your house will vacant and a target for thieves.

If these scammers would put the same amount of energy into something legit, they probably would be making more money that way, than from scamming folks. ugh. thanks,

Never had a cruise scam target me, but I love playing with all those scammers on the phone from India. Longer I can keep them on the phone, the longer they can't scam someone else.

The reused water bottle scam seems to be a popular Las Vegas scam too. Basically you have to make sure that the person has all the same brand of water(means they got them in a pack/bulk), look at the cap seal to make sure it isn't broken, and don't allow them to open the bottle for you because they can hide the fact that it wasn't sealed.

That is another good reason I got off Facebook was because of the scammers.

Hasn't the public heard of something called " there's no such thing as a free lunch?" Nobody wins no prize!

I run 2 different cruise group pages. I accepted on lady last week. A couple of days later she started the duck scam. I deleted her from the group. Another lady tried the same thing a couple of days later. I deleted her too.

I saw the duck scam on a Norwegian Cruise Facebook page but I didn't even realize at the time it was a scam. LOL! I passed it by because I thought why would anyone want to carry that many ducks in their luggage for a trip like this? We only fly carryon and every square inch is precious. I'll make sure to let the admins know this is a scam. Thank you!

Hi… born and raised Aruban local here…. The only water desalination and purification plant in Aruba produces one of the BEST tap water in the world.
ABSOLUTELY NO NEED TO BUY BOTTLED WATER…. Just buy 1 bottle, and refill with tap water….. saves u tons of money.

With the duck scam, there is the "now they know your address and the time you will be gone from home" angle to be concerned about as well.

Here is another thing...
You buy the ducks in a group for a specific date.
They send you the ducks, you think all is good... until you come home and realize these people knew your address and exactly when you would be gone, and they cleaned you out.
With a week or more of you gone, they have all the time in the world to get into your home computer and empty out your accounts. So many have "remember my password" for banking on their computers.... would be so easy to make it look like YOU were transferring the money.
PLEASE BEWARE whenever you are on a group for a specific sailing never to let your address out. Make sure you have security measures in place. A trusted friend/family member to house sit, take care of your dog, video surveillance, great neighbors that will collect your mail/paper/door hangers, etc. Lights on random timers.
Nothing can ruin an amazing cruise like coming home and having to deal with the nightmare of your home and personal things being violated.

Good video, as usual.
One scam I have noticed on FB is people posting simple questions on a cruise group. If you reply, they will respond with something like, "Thanks for the information. Are you single?" When you look at their profile picture, they appear to be in there 20's of maybe 30's and do modeling. Obviously, they are catfishing. I am in my 60's and no 20 something would want to meetup with me.

I’m Admin on few Facebook cruising groups. There was this one girl who joined those groups and did that same storyline with ducks. I’m suspicious naturally and deleted her messages and blocked her. I’m also seeing scams from folks selling excursions. Those aren’t always legitimate and I’ve seen people stand and wait for a company or person whom they paid online prior to the cruise that never came. If things sound too good to be true, they are.

The water bottle tip is the best! Always check the seals on water bottles.
