How to use the ratio test to test for the convergence of a series.
There are three outcomes to the ratio test when finding the limit of the absolute value of the next term divided by the previous term of a series. The outcomes are listed below as:
- If the limit is less than 1 then the series is convergent
- if the limit is greater than 1 then the series is divergent
- if the limit is equal to 1 then the ratio test is inconclusive
