A única conclusão que chego é que nos dias atuais não existem mais tenores ao nível desses magníficos do passado. Ponto.

I think Paoli was the kind of singer you had to hear live to fully understand his greatness, Caruso's voice was probably better suited the early recording technology. If we judge by their reputation and repertoire, Paoli was probably the more powerful vocalist of the two, but Caruso touched the publics hearts like none of his collegues.

Caruso never feared anybody but Paoli. There's the legend of a cancellation by Caruso at La Scala of a single night performance. Paoli stepped in to save the night. Paoli had to sing three more performances, the next three nights, after the public demanded to see him!

Paoli is amazing. Caruso... incomparable.

It would it be more interesting to listen this same comparison with better remaster recordings. It seems to me some Caruso's recordings where digitize and remastered more carefully...

Great comparison! Caruso sings with noticeably more depth, and his voice seems to “turn” a lot more.

Comparing two EXCELLENT TENORS line by line helps distinguish how truly magnificent Caruso's voice was.As Toscanini was quoted about early Caruso "He is SINGING like a God."

Great voices. Paoli was a dramatic heroic tenor. Giacomo Lauri Volpi who heard both tenors wrote a very knowledgeable evaluation in his book Voci Paralelle.

The Porto Rican, Antonio Paoli, "The King of Tenors"... "The Tenor of Kings"... Paoli has been recognized as "one of the most outstanding opera singers of all time, " and as one who had "one of the most lyric and powerful voices...superior even to his contemporary rival,  Enrico Caruso. Hearing Paoli for the first time ever here, what immediately became evident to me was his unidiomatic Italian. Relative to Caruso, a native of Italy, the difference in the pronunciation of the language between them is striking. That said, both were glorious tenors and there is no need to repeat that they have no equals today. And there won’t be again. The same can be said of Martinelli and Lauri-Volpi, to name just two more.

Due leoni della lirica.
Immortali entrambi.

Sono molto curioso quale sarà l’opinione del pubblico moderno se avesse la fortuna di sentire le voci Meravigliose di questi Signori dal vivo ?!…
Sovente una registrazione è una illusione dolce 🍰 e viceversa…

I have to say that both Tenors has their wonderful styles of singing which I love both.

Paoli is the most efficient here, al vowels with less pressure and more projection, more natural singing, as if someone was just saying the words, this is the belcanto school.

Both great Tenors but Caruso had the stronger dramatic sounding voice.

Caruso - verismo
Paoli - bel canto.
Naturalmente Paoli tenía las cuerdas más gruesas que caruso, pero la intención era aligerar

Aside being born in tje same town as Paoli I think Paoli's voice itd slightly more powerful.

Really two of the gratest tenor of all time!!! I´m awesomed by Paoli.... very musical and powerfull. With a rare ease for hi notes.... Like Di Quella Pira (wich in not in this comparison.... it sould).... Really a discovery since Caruso was world wide difunded and Paoli almost unknown for we, singers from late 20 century

Paoli's recordings were 20 feet away from the gramophone Caruso's 2 feet away so Paoli > Caruso IMO 10 x the power!!! Paoli also broke a Soprano's ear drum making her deaf for life in that ear wow!!!
