I read about the LCS in 2021 thinking they would be so cool. It’s sad now seeing how many things went wrong with them.

The Navy has been using LM2500 gasturbine engines since the late 70's with the Perry Class Frigates. They're still used on Cruisers and Destroyers.

they're detected by submarines far before their sonar can "hear" a submarine throughout all the noise they're making. Niiiice.

@NotWhatYouThink So thos "boxs" arent exactly explosion proof for the engines. They are more for sound proofing. Those engines are very loud, especially on the higher frequency end. The box is also heat and fire proof. The engines get reall hot, and in the rare case of an emergency where it carches fire, contains the fire so it can be put out without damaging anything else

Used to assist in launches of the LCS, they decommissioned a bunch before the final one was even built…

The Spruance Class Destroyers also had jet engines converted for marine use designated LM2500's providing 18000 shaft horsepower.

And now they’re decommissioning almost all of them😂😂😂😂

Is it concerning that I’m surprised there are no bots

The Knox class frigate had a tow array that was dragged behind the ship so they could hear better without the ship noise.
So if these ships are making too much noise at high speed, then just slow down when using the sonar equipment. You don't need to hot rod around all the time.

I was on 3 Steam Powered Ships, 1 600 and 2 1200PSI Steam Plants plus another 1200 at Great Lakes when I was an Instructor.

The engines aren’t the problem, vibrations are closely monitored on aircraft engines.

Ive seen the queen elizabeth aircraft carrier many times (or the prince philip) it was awesome

When we did our Battle group photos it was normal for the ships to show off how fast they were at the end of the photo op. I can tell you the Aircraft Carriers are the fastest ships in the US Navy fleet, without a question. Even the CG cruisers were fast, but not as fast as the carrier. It would gap anything in short time. Nuclear power is king on the high seas.

HMS Ark Royal used 4 Rolls Royce (Bristol) Olympus Engines, also fitted to the Concorde and the mighty Vulcan bomber…

These engines are used in pretty much every non-nuclear powered ship in the Navy. Though I'm not certain about minesweeps, but those are a small fraction of the fleet.

The LCS or Freedom class was promoted as the next generation of warships. It was shortlived and cancelled because it proved to be hopelessly unreliable during operation.
Pursued by PLAN 054A Frigates in the SCS, it broke down after its gearbox failed and needed major overhaul.
It was later transferred to US CG.

Just because things are going wrong, just work the bugs out instead of putting them on the back burner. Once the bugs get worked out, it would be an asset to the US Navy.
