I treat divination questions as what would happen if the party didnt intervene to change things, once the party intervenes who knows what will happen

To be fair, you don’t have to tell them that the butterfly effect is in effect, and everything they do from here on out can change the future drastically despite divining their current future.

I mean, sure they can ask specifics, but the ruling of Divination itself states that the response can be a short phrase, cryptic rhyme or omen.

Meaning that no matter how specific you get, you're not guaranteed a specific answer. It can be exceptionally vague.

It also states "The spell doesn't take into account any possible circumstances that might change the outcome, such as the casting of additional spells or the loss or gain of a companion."

So it can be vague, and is based on the assumption that the actions that lead up to the event follow a certain path. Any number of things can happen that can or will shift the outcome.

The Divination Spell isn't terribly reliable all things considered.

I’d make the future stuff just a possibility if you do certain actions

"The FUTURE? Of the GAME?" This is too true. My player used divination to see what was going to happen in the future and specifically about a character they would meet. So I give her a little glimpse and describe the character they'd meet...
And then they completely dodge that happening. I keep trying to set it up, and they keep dodging.
Oh they're in the town now, so the first person that goes up to them is-
And they're running the other way to follow a random street urchin I described for flavouring.
Okay they're gonna meet him at the tavern they go to-
And they get into a bar brawl with a random old man.
