After a three-year hiatus, Embrace triumphantly returned with their 2004 album "Out of Nothing," topping the UK albums chart. The lead single, ‘Gravity' was generously gifted to Embrace by Chris Martin of Coldplay, playing a pivotal role in their comeback. Released on August 30, 2004, "Gravity" quickly reached number seven on the UK Singles Chart, marking a significant chapter in their career.

ABOUT EMBRACE

Formed in the early ‘90s, Embrace solidified their current line-up in 1996, consisting of brothers Danny and Richard McNamara, bassist Steve Firth, keyboardist Mickey Dale, and drummer Mike Heaton.

Their breakthrough came in 1997 with the indie anthem 'All You Good Good People', followed by top 10 hits 'Come Back To What You Know' and 'My Weakness Is None Of Your Business'. Debut album 'The Good Will Out’, released in June 1998 soared to number one and went on to sell over 500,000 copies in the UK alone, marking it out as one of the fastest-selling debuts by a British artist. Subsequent albums, 'Drawn from Memory' (2000) and 'If You've Never Been' (2001) both entered the top 10 before the band left their original label Hut Recordings.

After a three-year hiatus, Embrace signed with Independiente Records. 2004’s 'Out of Nothing’ album propelled the band back to the top of the charts, thanks in part to Coldplay's Chris Martin, who wrote the hit single ‘Gravity' for the album. The album went on to sell over 600,000 copies in the UK (2xPlatinum) and the band has now scored eight consecutive top 10 album in their career to date.

Gravity is the lead single from Embrace's 4th album back in 2004, "Out of Nothing". This album reached No. 1 in the UK charts though. Most people know this song was written by Chris Martin & he gave it to Embrace. Danny McNamara, the frontman of Embrace & Chris had become friends after Coldplay supported Embrace in 2000 in Blackpool. This song was first performed live by Coldplay in 2002 & later went on to release their own version in 2005 as a B-side to the single "Talk". I am a fan of both Embrace & Coldplay. I find both versions to be awesome in their own ways. I just feel so extremely sad seeing people bashing on Embrace & criticize Danny's way of singing, comparing this version to Coldplay's. I have been a fan of Embrace ever since I heard "Come Back To What You Know" on the radio. They have been around since 1990 & have achieved critical acclaim as well as success in album sales. Their 1st album became one of the fastest selling debut albums by a British act. I just feel they deserve a little more respect....

My 12th grade art teacher had a lot of cool ideas, but my favorite was this one project where we had to compile a playlist and design a CD cover for it. I was a total loser kid but I was passionate about art. His unusual teaching methods didn't suit everybody, but I felt he just got me. I handed in my CD cover together with a folder full of my scrapped designs for it as well as all the lyrics of the songs I chose and little statements of what they meant to me. Got an A+ and that was that.

It's been 12 years since I graduated highschool. I took a teaching position at my old school a few months ago and I was so happy to see my old art teacher again. He retired at the end of the school year, so i was glad I got to tell him how much his lessons meant for a dumb, depressed, teenaged loser like me before he left the school. Two days ago, the last Friday before summer vacation ends, I went to school to prepare a few things, and in my pigeon hole I found my CD project from back then. This was the first song on my old playlist.

Listening to this song now brings back so many memories and feelings from that time in my life. Being bullied, my parents separating, no idea what to do with my life and fear of the future. But now there's also the knowledge that there was somebody who cared about me, someone who valued me and my ideas enough to keep a little highschool art project for over 12 years.


The new school year starts tomorrow. I'll miss him in the teachers' lounge, but I'll also be forever grateful. Perhaps I can make a difference for a troubled student one day.

On the 11th of May it will be 6 years since my Daughter died. In her short life we had just one night where it was me and her. I remember openly weeping tears of joy as I cradled Winter in my arms, her head next to my beating heart. This song came on my music player and it was the most perfect moment of my life. This song will always be mine and hers.
