The thing that’s cool about VR missions is that it really proves that the core gameplay loop of MGS1 was fundamentally sound and had a lot of unexplored gameplay to offer that never showed up in the game.

Considering how genre defining MGS1 was, you can see how it would’ve been so inspirational for future game devs.

Special Missions was such a weird game. I don't think something like it could get made today. It basically just used the engine of the existing game to facilitate a tonne of gameplay that the original game was never designed for and, let's face it, was not the main thing that drew people to Metal Gear Solid. And it did it all on the cheap basically using no new assets.

when i was a kid, i did not know there were two different games, metal gear solid, and metal gear solid vr missions. I had vr missions, and thought I had to finish the whole thing before being able to play the regular mode (the one most people know). i finished it and wasn't able to, then I thought I needed 100% in every mission... needless to say, I want able to finish it at 100%... it wasn't until like 5-6 years later that I found out they were 2 different games u.u
