We’ve had a stock tank pool for 4 years now. No liner, just the galvanized tank (about $400 at the time, had to transport myself). Bought a pump/filter for an intex kid pool. From there just needed to cut an inlet/outlet with a hole saw, and visit the plumbing aisle at Home Depot for a handful of plumbing parts to connect the pump. Never had a rust or leak issue, just re-sealed the seams as a precaution of the first time this summer. Uses 2-3 chlorine tabs in a floater each week. We are in Wisconsin, so temps usually in the mid 80’s here. Location is part shade and the water stays around 75 degrees without doing anything. The metal pool is not hot to the touch, the water dissipates the heat. I tip it on its side for the winter months and store it against our shed.

Love the aerial view at 5:50 of the deck when the dog walks backwards underneath the table. LOL

Down south I would go solar for sure. Not PV panels but circulating the water through black pipes that are in the sun in a box with a mirrored surface on the back and a clear surface on the front. Use a PV panel to circulate it.

I grew up on a dairy farm, and we had geese. Dad and Mom got us kids one in the 80's- no more kiddie pools ruined by the geese!! Though the seam in the center was hell on the knees! It was the best!

I created a pool out of a 300Gal polymer livestock watering tank.
I hooked up a sand filter and an inline jacuzzi heater which cycles daily. The kids have used it for 3 years straight.

Great video! Just to make people aware it is super important to electrically bond all of your pool equipment and metal components. A lot of people (and even electricians) don't do this properly and it's possible to get shocked if not done right.

Back in the 80's in South St Loius, almost every kid had one of these in the backyard. We would run from house to house jumping in the pools... because of this, they always had grass on the bottom. LOL. We would grab the side and pull ourselves around the pool to make a whirlpool. Good times!

Not exactly like jumping in the stock tank out in the pasture on a hot day. Yours is probably a little cleaner though. 🙃

I haven’t seen stock tank pools in Michigan yet. However, I’m FASCINATED by them. Maybe I’ll be the first in my area to have one. Thanks so much April for making a dedicated video on your pool! 😃👍👏

Good morning, April! Now, THAT looks like a relaxing place to be. That "pool" looks great and it makes me want to get my butt in gear to do the deck "add on" for a hot tub. Thanks for sharing another great video with a "cool" idea! Hope you're having an awesome weekend! God bless.

Hey April are Vacuum Solar Tubes a thing out in the States.
They are a 3'3" long a meter and are in banks of 10 with a diverter valve you run the pool water directly through the heat exchanger. even works on a cloudy day too.

We have an 8 ft poly stock tank pool. I got the stock tank itself used for $100 and I'm about another $300 in for the pump, filters, connections, and hole saw. We're on summer #2 and it's going great.

Our best friends live in Wimberley and they just bought a house that had an old pool like this but they had it replaced with a Cowboy Pool like yours, mainly its for their grandkids but they enjoy it as well

I saved the controller, pump and ionizer when I trashed my old spa, for use with a stock tank at my new house.

Your deck is awesome. I would so be that neighbor who is over all the time.

You're keeping that pool pretty full - I wonder if it might not be a good idea to install some kind of liner around the edges to keep splash/rain overflow from degrading your decking/fasteners too quickly? I think I remember you using a composite deck board, so maybe it's not a huge deal.

Drive your pickup truck close to your deck and add a liner to the bed, portable pool!

I like the idea. Having just bought my first house. I’ll probably make one myself when i’m done renovating the house.
