Registering a DBA with Two Different Owners | QOTD

Question of the Day: Can you register a DBA with two different owners? Or should each owner register individual DBA's?

Check your local rules, but if a company is a sole proprietorship with two owners, they can likely register the DBA in both owners’ names. If each owner submitted a separate DBA application, it would likely cause confusion because the state may think the applications are for separate companies and they may approved the first application received and deny the second one if they did not understand that they’re for the same company. Please note: I never recommend that a company operate as a sole proprietorship.

If legal questions were easy, we wouldn’t need lawyers.
