Once the weather lets up and that starts to dry out, make sure you get the straw out, or you'll have a hardpack. Straw and mud make bricks, just FYI.

I love that you had your chickens help you 😂

I use wood chips that I get free from the nearest city mulcher. The straw will eventually smell more than woodchips. But your idea fixed the mess and your eggs will be clean. Good job.

Straw quickly ends up being FAR smellier than a saturated run. Unless you go and clean out all the straw AND the mud/litter/poo mess. It turns into giant shi+ bricks that smell awful😂 go with compressed pine pellets instead (horse stable litter) itll absorb the mud overnight, and then actually improves the mud pit into something that can shed its own water without turning into a bog. I used hay for ages.. until i decided to try it the other way. Literally night and day results. Hay- bandaid that gets gross fast. Pine pellets- treatment that addresses the underlying issue

To never have to worry about that again use sand. Quit buying straw and shavings. Sand sand sand!
