Another pet peeve is when someone says go light they are injured and then go 100%

You should really be going 30-50% with anyone you just met and slowly increase intensity

Some people dont respect that you have a full time job and a life to maintain and cant be risking injury like that

I was *FULLY* expecting to see him step on the mat with shoes 😂

When I came back after 20 years I was going like 5% just to get used to the feel. I still only go like 15% strength ever. No need, just trying to enjoy the sport and be active.

I got absolutely destroyed my first week but I literally ask “to be humbled.” I sure as hell got what I was looking for and learned a few things too.

I remember trying to get into Jiu jitsu after hs & I felt like because I was 6’3 and pretty well built & they found out I came from a different martial art, most people would try there hardest to submit me. I would constantly have to tell them I’m just here to learn. Majority turn off from that gym because of that

I did this today. Week 1 student. Rolled super chill as another student at it for 3 years. I actually want them to have a positive experience and come back and train with us.

What a great message. It's so intimidating even going to a weight lifting gym, let alone a high level martial art.

I'm so glad that the gym in my town has (what appears to be) a rare culture of we're here to learn, not kill each other.

We have an Advanced and Competitive class... but in the the Fundamentals 1 and Fundamentals 2 class, it's just watch the prof teach the technique, go practice with your partner for 10 or so minute, repeat for a few techniques.

Competitive class is basically just open session rolling. If you're going to compete, you go with the other competitors and can go hard. If you're like me, 37 with a full time job and kids, there are plenty of people in similar situations that want to try the techniques we've learned and kind of free roll from there just learning more and practicing.

Even the blue belts don't have this need to smash new white belts. They're constantly saying "i was able to do that because your hand was here... or your weight was here..." etc and teaching you what you did wrong or what you can do to be better.

It was the first gym I tried and it's 20 min from my house. Very happy to be there

I feel like this applies to everything in life. If it’s someone’s first day at batting practice in baseball you don’t have the best guy throw 90mph down the plate. The considerate thing to do is help new people learn new sports

What made me want to continue in jiujitsu was a 14 year old girl submiting me like everytime. I was 20 years old and i'm a "strong"person with 81kg. I was so amazed how the fuck a little girl can destroy me like that. But i understand that people can get frustrated. But i thing that's a ego thing.

As a newbie ...i actually want this. Dont go light..go a little hard and i will adjust eventually. Forces quick thinking and gets one used to fighting speed more quickly.
