About This Episode:
In this ep we check out one of the most popular street foods in the Philippines, Balut. Balut is essentially a hard boiled duck egg, but where the egg has continued developing for 14-17 days. Yikes.

About Sonny Side:
I’m not sponsored. I’m not rich. I’m just some guy who wanted to make the type of travel videos that I would want to see. This show is completely self-funded so thanks for patiently watching that five second advertisement (and read below how you can support this channel).

I am a video director by trade. Each time I travel to a new country I bring a cameraman with me, usually a friend, to shoot as many episodes as possible in a short amount of time (usually a week). The rest of the time I’m working as a video director/videographer in Vietnam and editing the crap out of these videos.

Much love and remember, Don't Think, Just Chew.

I like how this man appreciates all the culture..
Eats with respect not with disgust

Way to stomach that balut, man. You're right: it's not the flavor that's tough, it's just the thought and sight of a fetus.

Sonny really learned to show more respect and appreciation for the customs and food of others over time, can't blame him really, and good to see that he became much more open and nice throughout his channel's journey

Yep, Balut just looks unappetizing, but really it just taste like the yolk of a hard boiled egg but yummier, especially with spicy vinegar. One time I ate 13 pieces of those in one night.

Had these a few times from Filipino eateries and some when I visited Vietnam. Both different preparations, I prefer Viet method as a standalone but Filipino style with calamansi goes great with beer. The ones I had from a Vietnamese stall were smaller, I believe quail..

Sonny, I've watched a lot of your newer stuff (just found you about a year ago). But I decided to watch your old videos from the beginning, and it is so interesting to see your evolution as a weird food eater! (I mean eating weird foods... not that you're weird....)

Say what you want about this channel.but he's got more balls than any of us, well any American anyway when it comes to trying food. The balut, the worms on a pancake, blood soup, poop soup, etc, I don't know many of us that would even attempt any of that shit. I about died when I had to eat a few worms and grubs as part of survival training in the Army.

Niiiice not even all Filipinos have eaten a whole balut.
Tip to anyone planning to try it out: Do as Sonny did and don't eat the white rubbery part. No bueno.

I appreciate the openness you have for a country's bizarre foods. I eat balut but I can never really stomach the fetus. Maybe one day 😊 It tastes so damn good though. Especially with the salt.
