Odd that when talking about Verdi's start, one can hear Puccini's Chi il bel sogno di Doretta from La Rondine playing as background music... one of many glaring errors. Very strange.

I am sure that the information presented here, concerning Verdi and his life, is accurate. I must say however, that the reference to Nebuchadnezar is entirely inaccurate. Nebuchadnezar was the king who captured the city of Jerusalem and then marched most of the inhabitants to Babylon. This much is true. He was not the king of the "writing on the wall" This was a later king named Belshazzar. In the Old Testament Book of Daniel Belshazzar is described as the "son of Nebuchadnezar." As the writing appeared on a wall of Belshazzar's palace, Belshazzar's wife (the Queen of the Babylonians) recommended Daniel as an interpreter of the words. It was Belshazzar who was "found wanting". Through the night of the "writing on the wall" Belshazzar and his relatives and friends had been drinking wine from goblets taken from the Temple of Solomon, in Jerusalem. On the night of Daniel's interpretation, the armies of the Medes and the Persians marched through the open gates of the palace and conquered Babylon. Nebuchadnezar was long dead by this time. According to Daniel, Nebuchadnezar lived the final years of his life as a repentant and humbled ruler.
