1) Greenlights:
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me.

Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries. I found stories I experienced, lessons I learned and forgot, poems, prayers, prescriptions, beliefs about what matters, some great photographs, and a whole bunch of bumper stickers. I found a reliable theme, an approach to living that gave me more satisfaction, at the time, and still: If you know how, and when, to deal with life’s challenges—how to get relative with the inevitable—you can enjoy a state of success I call “catching greenlights.”

So I took a one-way ticket to the desert and wrote this book: an album, a record, a story of my life so far. This is fifty years of my sights and seens, felts and figured-outs, cools and shamefuls. Graces, truths, and beauties of brutality. Getting away withs, getting caughts, and getting wets while trying to dance between the raindrops.

Hopefully, it’s medicine that tastes good, a couple of aspirin instead of the infirmary, a spaceship to Mars without needing your pilot’s license, going to church without having to be born again, and laughing through the tears.

It’s a love letter. To life.

It’s also a guide to catching more greenlights—and to realizing that the yellows and reds eventually turn green too.

Good luck.

2) Just Because:
Just because I’m in the race,
doesn’t mean I’m fully ready.
Just because I’m shaking,
doesn’t mean that I’m not steady.

Have you ever felt worried and excited at the same time?

Have you ever had your feelings hurt but forgiven someone anyway?

That’s because contradictions are all around us. And they make us who we are.

Filled with his trademark humor and wisdom, Academy Award–winning actor and #1 New York Times bestselling author Matthew McConaughey has crafted a soulful and irreverent collection of life lessons that empowers readers, big and small, to celebrate how we are all full of possibility.

I'm one week and one day alcohol and smoke-free after 37 years of addiction, went to AA for the first time the day before yesterday, and I feel the most incredible FREEDOM right now, having finally removed THAT which was not me from my life. It's just the beginning, it feels very easy right now but will be challenging later I have no doubt, but what he says about discovering who I truly am thru the process of elimination sounds like a universal truth that I am incredibly grateful to have heard at this critical point in my life. I am excited to remove more Not Me from my life and see who I truly am under it all!! Thank you to MC and to the person who posted it and to the loving energy who made sure I saw this message.

Good advice ! I'm 73 and I have made my life what I wanted it to be. No regrets, it's been a GREAT life and that's because I took the reins and made it my life. YOU are in charge of your life. Make it YOUR life.

"First step is to know who you are not" is one of the best quotes i have heard.

This is so timely for me that it's almost as if Matthew and I had a meeting just before he wrote this. I just turned 71 on Christmas Day. It is only within the last 30 days that I can say with all truth to God that I know who I am. I have become become confident for the first time in most every aspect of my life. However, I am a late-bloomer, and a baby boomer!

Great words. I wish I had heard them 60 years ago. If like me, you're approaching your final years, forgive yourself if you haven't yet found yourself. In a way you have. No one stays the same. Set aside all of the noise of your thoughts. You may not have found your best self, but you have worked with what you had, what you still have now. There is no one who has not known compromise, not known failure. There is so little real peace in this life. Let yourself be at peace, first with yourself.

"My final message to you is whatever your personal battle, be brave and face it. Every single day is precious. Don’t waste a moment. In a world full of adversity we must still dare to dream. Rob Burrow, over and out."

Rob Burrow(1983-2024) was a British professional player of football rugby who died of Motor Neuron Disease(MND).

This speech is the motto of life and should be listened to everyday before we start. Get the negative out of the way, the bad influences, the wrong ways, the wrong people. Be your own priority, be the person you are meant to be.
Don't we wish we could give this advice to every child starting school and the challenges it brings with it. Thank you for your words, that have great meaning to us all.

Absolutely great speech! I had a 1SG that took me aside one day, when I was a young Infantry soldier. He saw that I was struggling with something (I don't recall what). And he told me something very similar. He said "look you can keep wondering. You can keep questioning yourself. Or you can stop self sabotaging yourself and just do it! Because anything worth a damn, is not easy"! I retired with 21 years in the Army. All in the infantry. Thank you 1SG. You helped me be a better man.

I love how he enlightens us on how success like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Money and fame are great, but a life of joy starts with these simple ideals.

Thank you, Matthew, for an incredible video. I'm sending it to everyone in my life.
Past generations needed to hear this and every future generation needs to hear it, take it to heart, then apply it to their lives. I especially loved what you said about protecting the soul. If I may, perhaps you could have also told them that this isn't America any longer. I'm a baby boomer and glad to be one. I grew up in America 🇺🇸 and I miss it

Never hide problems. Talk about them. Hiding problems raise other problems. Talk about them. Speak up. Know your rights.

This is something that I have believed for a long time, but hearing it and bringing it to the forefront and making me aware of it is a good thing for me. Thank you Matthew McConaughey for sharing this with us.
