Current Yuji is actually so much stronger than people give him credit for. His physical stats are only comparable or exceeded by Maki and Toji, and his skill in combat, CE reinforcement, control, and H2H and group fight IQ are straight up among the best in the verse.

Last time we saw him outside of him spectating Gojo vs Sukuna, he got violated by Sukuna so badly he straight up snapped, and ran up on him alone, no idea Megumi could bottle neck his techniques output and force Sukuna to fight H2H. He tanked a hit that’s in the top 3 barest singular punches unguarded and proceeded to collapse a skyscraper with a jump and crack concrete with his movements. He was fully on Sukunas ass, and while it’s clear Sukuna is handling Yujis attacks fine, even he was bamboozeled by where the hell he got a x2 stat boost from. He has Sukuna on a tentative “back foot”, not overpowering him in any way but contending at all in any way had Sukuna puzzled. He was surprising a serious Sukuna with his strength while Jogo, the resident victim of JJK, got embarrassed by Sukuna when he was toying with him.

He showed feats of combat skill, strength, speed and durability that no simple grade 1 could hope to match. He even fights on a relative scale to fully awakened maki, non verbally setting up dynamic and fast paced combos. Yuji literally wraps Sukuna in a fence so maki can land a clean haymaker, and even sets up a human baseball bat maneuver with maki all without needing to communicate at all. it’s even confirmed Yuji can keep up with her(she is the more traditionally skilled fighter and her lack of CE made her the more dangerous OP for Sukuna given she’s basically a ghost with S tier hands and hax weapons.)

(Some ppl think all of Sukunas stats were constantly at 10% due ti Megumi but it’s abundantly clear Megumi doesn’t have that kind of control over Sukuna and his techniques output is the only thing explicitly nerfed and only when it’s being used on Yuji and layer maki. It’s Megumi essentially kicking Sukuna in the balls every time he tries to play fruit ninja with them, his physical stats aren’t nerfed at the same time Megumi could barely stop Sukunas movement once much less hard nerf him)

Yuji currently sits at a level that shits on any operating without hax, but still has no concrete defense against said hax. Like it Yuji and Choso had a rematch, I love Choso but he’s getting folded, and fast. He’s not fodder by any means but he’s in the same boat Yujis in where they have no anti “fuck you I win” moves.

Unfortunately the power curve of JJK is based mostly around who has the better hax and who’s more skilled at Cheesing them. Anyone with a domain expansion or durability negation(kashimo) is gonna beat Yuji bc he’s simply not built to play in a hacker lobby atm.

I personally believe Yujis physical stats and skills are all on a level that could be considered special grade adjacent. Not in that tier but at a level you’d expect from someone who is. In order to be a special grade you basically need to have both stats and hax and yujis simply running low on those. So basically all of his current ops have massive advantages but if he fought human Naoya now he’d low diff him like Maki did. Cursed spirit Naoya is a different story having lag on all of someone’s molecules is absolutely absurd hax and Yuji can’t just walk off molecular deconstruction.

He’s in the grey area right before you can be considered a true special grade. His hands are already registered tho this man is simply built to use his own to fists to beat spectacular levels of ass

Here’s the thing Yuji being a grade 1 sorcerer with even knowing what his CT is makes so much more scary when he does find out what it is and then if he unlocks reverse Cursed energy, well he would a special grade easily maybe even gojo level if we’re being generous
