The ridiculous thing is that Rafa was absolutely amazing in this match as well. He did everything right. Used the same tricks he used to beat Federer so many times in the past. But that backhand had some serious venom that night.

Federer’s backhand is the definition of poetry in motion.

There’s something about Federer that is just different. It’s pure greatness. Creative genius. Master at work. There will never be another RF.

Rafa seemed to be in shock with Roger's backhand winners. This match lived up to all the hype -- two champions who just give us their all -- there will never be another two like Roger/Rafa.

Not only unstoppable but also very quiet. He was playing so quietly ... IN THE ZONE! He literally flew, glided and floated off and on that court. AMAZING!

Federers mind was clear knowing he had just gotten back from injury and all the mental pressure of everyone expecting him to win wasnt weighing down on him when he is free in mind and pressure and he just goes out there and plays freely its truly amazing and hes the best noones tops him when hes like this i hope he gets there again one more time

To play against Federer is like playing against entire crowd in stadium. The kind of support he gets across the world is phenomenal

Came back to this video just minutes after I heard Roger's decision to retire.I don't know whether I was expecting to see anything new, since i have seen this video (and many others about him) dozens of times, but I 've just finished rewatching it with tears in my eyes.Tears of saddness in the realisation that I am never going to see my favourite tennis player gracing the court ever again. But also tears of joy for all the memories that have been accompanying my whole life. I want to thank Roger for all the nummerless times that he has left me stunned, while watching him thrush his opposition, for making want to pick up tennis, copying his moves and dreaming that I was just like him when I won my first tournament all those years ago.I want to thank him for cheering me up everytime he played, no matter what I was feeling at the time. But most importantly I want to thank him for making me believe that art can be created out of nothing and that evereyone can take part in the moments of art and magic that he created. For all of that, Roger, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I'd give my life up to watch Federer play like this again in one more slam final, especially against Djokovic.
Just back himself in and smash that backhand

5:46 THAT rally.
Props to the OP for including it, even though it wasn't a backhand winner. But let's be honest, any video about this match that does NOT include that rally is considered a criminal offense. You did the right thing. 😆

My favourite ever match. Brings a tear to my eye. As a long suffering fan of Federer, having seen him suffer at the hands of Nadal for years, this was redemption. I’ve never seen him play with such guts. Not many guys have won a slam at 35, let alone against one of the greatest ever players. Pretty special I’d say. It’s gonna take a few more years to recover from Wimbledon 2019. He’s injured again now in 2021. Hope to see him play again though.

Never again tennis will be like this beautiful, majestic, the rivalry, the friendship, the perfection, i believe looking for the GOAT is not the point, simply "the giant's era"

That point at 5:47 is going to be remembered for 2 things:

1) It was the point that gave Federer the 2017 Australian Open Championship.

2) It was the best rally he has won against Nadal in his entire career.

No one plays tennis like this, this is insane. Roger will be my idol as long as I live.

I never saw Roger returned every single shot with all this intense. I wonder if Roger felt deep in his heart that this game could be his last grand slam final against Rafa, so he wanted to put all his experience, mentally and physically, in this match.
