One Minute Real Spring Reverb Comparison

I’m mildly obsessed with outboard spring reverbs and while I know which ones I prefer I’ve honestly never sat down and actually a/b-d them back to back to hear the differences. I decided to make a very quick comparison vid, so away we go!

There are 6 units in total, 2 of which include an extra kind of wacky example.

Tascam RS-20B
Fostex 3180
Furman RV-1
Moog Grandmother
Roland RE-201
Monacor REV-1

Let me know which ones you prefer. This was my first time patching into the Grandmother which proved to be a pretty interesting experience.

The Chase Bliss Preamp MK II was the only pedal used here.

I love the noise floor of my 3180 constantly being heard in my recordings. It's a warm hiss that reminds me of the best garage slickness. But nothing can beat the Space Echo.

Why does the Furman sound so good?

Is it EQ or something else?

I liked the Tascam too.

, what you think about Roland RV-100 (Boss RX-100)?

Loved this. I’m looking for a Tascam at the moment here in Japan. How do you like yours?

Super bummed I missed out on the Tascam. Are you using all of these in front of an amp or in an effects loop? I’m in Tokyo so will be on the look out for other old Japanese units. Any suggestions?

would you compare your favorite of these against the CXM 1978?
