Considering the noise from #1 my guess would be #2 is digital. Owning the UA Reverberator for a few months now, I can finally say: my journey finding the best spring reverb for me is finally over. I tried the Carl Martin, the Vermona, the Danelectro Spring, a whole bunch of digital pedals and I even tried/own a eurorack-unit where I can switch tanks… I was never satisfied until I played the Reverberator. Aside from the beautiful and pseudorealistic drip that MOD-knob is gorgeous for making the spring beautifully stereo. That alone would make the UA the best one for me. But then there‘s the Plates and the 224… best reverb-option ever.

Just tried both of these, echo fix is very inspiring to play sounds fantastic!, I took home the golden.

Don't know but I like 2. Price usually precludes either for me.

I'm usually fairly good at correctly guessing in these blind tests but this one I didn't even try since I liked them both. They definitely sounded different though. However, I did decide which one I preferred before the reveal so that I felt less bias, which turned out to be the UAFX. To my ears the UAFX was more pronounced which may be why I preferred it. Although I'm not sure if that is the result of its voice, or just the way it was set for this test.

The test for me with a Spring Reverb is... if it has the Fender Spring Reverb "Drip"... from what i've tested the EHX Oceans 11 or 12 and the Surfy Bear are my faves. The UAFX Golden is a close 3rd for me.

I have a Surfy Bear Metal, and it's glorious. Big board, but just so freaking nice, just the real deal...I haven't heard a digital pedal touch that. Drips if you want it to, but back down the tone and dwell and it's just big, beautiful lush reverb. Has a volume on it as well. I have it running through the back on a Plexi reissue, and in front of cleaner amps. For me, that's it, the way I know it should sound. I love analog though...home studio is analog too.

Great video as always! That possible phase-shifting issue with wet-dry rigs is not obvious at all! Thanks for mentioning it!

Great demo. They’re pretty close, but analog has that extra warmth to my ears. It was pretty close, I had to re-watch; before the reveal, to listen to the differences. I had 1 as my guess before the reveal. Love that guitar, I hope to keep seeing it on the channel.

Take 2 is the UAFX. I own the uafx golden. I like it. But i does not replace my real springs. Its just a convenient pedal with good sounds.

Spring reverbs I love that can not (or could be, but most likely will not be) recreated are: the Peavy Valverb, the Furman Spring Reverb and the AnaSound Spring Reverb.

I would say Reverb 1 is analog. The only reason is that you can hear the open line before the noise gate closes again after the sound fades out. But it would definitely be much harder to distinguish when playing.

Fabulous comparison! The UA is probably the best spring emulation I've heard but the Echo Fix is still superior. You can hear it particularly clearly on the single notes how the EF melds with the guitar, whilst the UA sits behind the note. I love digital reverbs for huge ambient washes but nothing beats a real spring!

Wow, UA much vibier to my ears. I read of a guy who actually preferred it to a handful of real spring reverbs he owned and i can see why. It comes down to it being essentially a Fender spring, which is such a glorious sound, while the other pedals werent.

I found this while I was looking to buy an Echofix. I’m the owner of a UAFX Golden and I’m pretty sure you just convinced me I don’t need an Echofix.

I also found I could emulate the sound of a Surfy Bear Metal with the UAFX.

Stupid GAS.

having both now and spent few hours comparing them. I know the Echofix has more of smooth tail, more washy sustain, less 'drip'. The UA has more drip and has that spingy sound.
My guess, A: Echofix, B: UA.

Hi! What's the difference in feel with that little spring? Many people don't use spring reverb because it sounds better, but it adds something, it helps them playing... live I go directly into the mixing desk, and digital sounds good, but it doesn't react so nice...

I think that the UAFX Golden Reverb is pretty close to the Analog Spring Reverb, I don't think the difference is that big, that's very impressive

I couldn't tell. I think 1st was analog and 2nd was digital. Can't wait to find out

Ive tried this live with Strymon Flint vs Surfy Bear.
And that was not even close. But to be fair, there is not a mode in Flint that is doing what Surfy Bear is. Going to watch and will let you know.

The taper of the reverb effect gave the digital one away for me.
