FreeBSD 11.1 Installation + GNOME Desktop + Apps + Guest Additions on Oracle VirtualBox [2017]

This video tutorial shows FreeBSD 11.1 installation with GNOME Desktop Environment on Oracle VirtualBox step by step. We'll also install applications such as Firefox, VLC, GIMP, FileZilla and LibreOffice on FreeBSD 11.1. This tutorial is also helpful to install FreeBSD 11.1 on physical computer or laptop hardware. We also install VirtualBox Guest Additions on FreeBSD 11 for better performance and usability features: Automatic Resizing Guest Display, Shared Folder, Seamless Mode and Shared Clipboard, Improved Performance and Drag and Drop.

Steps:
1- Create Virtual Machine on Oracle VirtualBox
2- Start FreeBSD 11.1 Installation
3- Install Xorg and GNOME Desktop
4- Installing Firefox, VLC, GIMP, FileZilla and LibreOffice Applications
5- Install VirtualBox Guest Additions on FreeBSD 11.1
6- Test Guest Additions Features: Automatic Resizing Guest Display and Shared Clipboard

FreeBSD 11.1 New Features and Improvements
- Clang, LLVM, LLD, LLDB, and libc++ have been updated to version 4.0.0.
- Many third-party (contributed) software updates, such as the Elf Tool Chain, ACPICA, libarchive, ntpd, unbound, and more.
- Support for blacklistd has been added to OpenSSH.
- The efivar utility has been added, providing an interface to manage UEFI variables.
- Support for Microsoft Hyper-V Generation 2 virtual machines has been added.
- The ena driver has been added, providing support for "next generation" Enhanced Networking on the Amazon EC2 platform.
- The NFS client now supports the Amazon Elastic File System (EFS).
- The EFI loader can now access remote files via TFTP in addition to NFS as a runtime configuration option.
- ZFS now stores compressed data in cache, improving cache hit rates and performance.
- Several updates to provide build reproducibility.

What is GNOME Desktop?
GNOME is a desktop environment that is composed entirely of free and open-source software. GNOME was originally an acronym for GNU Network Object Model Environment. Its target operating system is Linux, but it is also supported on most derivatives of BSD. GNOME is developed by the GNOME Project.

GNOME 3 Desktop Minimum System Requirements
- 1 GHz processor
- 1GB RAM (system memory)
- 7 GB of hard-drive space
- VGA capable of 1024x768 screen resolution

The music wasn't bad. People are already stressed out looking forward to some real feedback on real hardware. Maybe there is a thrift shop around? Or something on something like eBay?

Didn't work for me. Followed exactly as in this video but gnome-desktop won't start. Just ends up at the text login. Not sure why. I'm using FreeBDS version13. Great video though.

What graphics card should i use? AMD or NVidia? Can it run on an older Radeon HD 7850 with 3D acceleration?

I knew I'd get around reading the fucking manual :D

however, somehow the entry in the sudoers file didn't take and I get "is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported" when trying to use the terminal.
Also, I can not enable auto login or change my user group to admin. The former just doesn't take and automatically resets next time I open that window, the latter prompts me to log out and in again but doesn't take either.

It’s interesting and telling that all these demos are done on virtual machines, as if no one has the confidence in the OS working properly. Incidentally, the music is irrelevant and distracting. Human explanation would be a lot more useful and helpful.
