Bad Turbo sound

Assuming the engine isn’t running, small turbo like that still needs oil to flow through it for the journal bearing to work

I recall my VW 2003 Jetta TDI had a similar problem, I remember thinking it was the turbo. But it ended up being 2 loose bolts on the “elbow” pipe that connects to the egr valve. The air boost was leaking out of the pipe instead of helping the car accelerate and it would cause the gasket and screws to vibrate and make that noise.

I have the same sound on a newly mounted Garrett G30-770, what is this noise due to, as it seems from the video at least, like mine it resembles the noise of pieces of iron rubbing, it doesn't sound like a whistle from a bent fin I think, what is it, unbalanced coreassy? problems with bearings? lack of oil in the turbo? thanks in advance.

It's a similar sound heard when the exhaust manifold isn't torqued to spec and gas is escaping?

Yup good old turbo shaft play likely got fucked up after running really rich my b5 audi a4 did same thing after running extremely rich for a while . Turbo shaft gets disfigured and start to hit the housing u don’t burn oil bc it’s not broken just out of balance due to turbo shaft disfiguring bc of extreme heat, debri contamination, or anything entering the turbo post filter .
