If you add 1cup of sugar it will increase the alcohol content a little, bump it to like 4-5%. Follow the steps, let ferment for 3-4wks then bottle. The longer it ferments the less active the yeast and less carbonation. If you add priming sugar for carbonation, let sit for 2 weeks.

Without 1 cup of sugar, ferment for 2 weeks, then bottle. If you add priming sugar for carbonation, let sit for 2 weeks.

If you reduce the sugar addition at bottling you'll be able to reduce the final carbonation levels. We only add about 26grams of sugar per gallon at bottling.
