What is enhanced uninsured motorist insurance coverage?

Beginning July 1, 2018, auto insurance companies in the state of Maryland will have to start offering a new "Enhanced Uninsured Motorist " coverage on their auto insurance policies. This coverage is already available in some of our neighboring states and is called "Stacked" uninsured motorist coverage.
Currently, if you are hit by someone with less insurance coverage than you have, then your underinsured motorist coverage pays the difference between their coverage and your coverage. So if they have $30,000 and you have $100,000, you would be eligible to collect up to $70,000 in underinsured motorist coverage from your auto insurance policy.
With the new Enhanced auto insurance coverage, in this same scenario, you would be eligible to collect your full $100,000 of underinsured motorist coverage under your auto insurance policy.
