If I need a finer point I’ll use a #2 pencil. Generally if I’m on trim and casing I use a .7 mm mechanical pencil. Gotta watch mechanical pencils these days though not all made with a steel tip.

The pencil sharpener for a carpenter pencil isn't new. HD has been selling them for years, probably the same at Lowe's and Menards.

I used mostly standard #2 pencils when i took carpentry shop class 9 yrs ago cause a box of pencils where cheap disposable that and i was basically loaning pencils everyday now i prefer the Ticonderoga pencils over cheaper ones.

Kind of ironic that it’s slow to sharpen a blunt end that you can mark quickly with but fast to sharpen a fine point that you need to slow down and mark accurately with.

Or just get a pica pencil. Costs $20 but its so much better to use. Unless youre known to lose your pencils everyday.

If I need a finer point I'll use a pin, and if I need an even fine or point than that I'll use my knife.

The only sharpener a professional needs is a knife and sand paper. Dont overcomplicate the simple things

Sorry I’ve used those and they suck…. Everything you say about them is a lie lol. I can sharpen with a knife almost as fast and get the finest point imaginable. Those leave this big fat blunt end because the cutter blade doesn’t go all the way to the point of the sharpener. All pencil sharpeners of this style have the same flaw and this is why people who care use a knife.

Dumb. Been around for decades, work just fine. Still rather sharpen with a knife, takes 2 seconds once you get a little practice in.
