90 degrees Parking - How to Correct Yourself

For any info:

If you're too close to the car on the right, turn the wheel to the left to get a wider angle. Remember, you always turn the wheel to the side you want to go, be it going forward or backing up. So in this case, since we want to distance ourselves from the car on the right, we want to go to the left, so we turn the wheel to the left. The closer you are to the car on the right, the more you want to turn your wheel. Then, when you have enough distance from the car on the right, check your side mirror to get a good indication of the distance. Now this is one of those cases where looking in the mirrors will help you a lot more than looking behind with your head turned. You’ll have a lot better idea of the distance between your car and the other one by looking in the mirror as opposed to looking back with your head turned. Then, when you have a safe distance, which should be at least two feet, turn the wheel completely to the right to reposition the car, and back up until you’re straight.

If you're too close to the car to the left, there's not much you can do with the steering wheel since it's already turned completely to the right. The only option left, is to go forward. So what you'll need to do in this case, is to advance like if you were going to park in the parking spot in front of you. Turn the wheel completely to the left and align your car between the lines in front. In most parking lots, the Lines are aligned, so you know that if your car is well aligned between the lines of the parking spot in front, if you back up really straight, you'll also be all aligned in your parking. So now what you have to do is hold your wheel mostly straight and back up as straight as possible, correcting a bit if needed. If the parking spot in front of you is not empty, turn the wheel completely to the right, advance a bit, then turn it to the left and again, advance as much as you can, and repeat these steps as much as needed until the car is straight, then hold the wheel straight and back up until you fit in the spot.

Hope you liked this video, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask them in the comments. Thanks for watching.

My instructor keeps confusing me. It almost feels like she wants me to fail the test so I keep on paying for more classes. It is so frustrating. I am on the verge of tears somedays. Cant thank you enough for your lessons. Not everyone is a TEACHER. You are. May God bless you Sir.

I used to fear “backing in” but your videos gave me more confidence! This is the only way I park now in parking lots lol.

Your videos are so clear and concise! I got my license a few months ago but parking is still a challenge. I know it's going to take practice, but watching your videos really makes me feel more confident.

Thank you for making this. My husband and i have had massive fights in the car while i'm trying to learn this because we drive a big car and the parks are so tight. Now i understand what he's asking of me so i feel like i can try it again without crying hysterically lol

I am so happy today. I watched your video last night and this afternoon I and my family went to the shopping centre and I used your tip for lining up the side mirror with the parking bay line. And all that I can say is the following....Damn, that was sweet. I line up so perfectly I was beside myself with joy. I had to repeat it once more it felt that good. My wife was well impressed and she does not drive. I felt such a complete driver for those 30 seconds or so. So glad that guys like you exist. My skills in driving have now improved in reverse parking have gone up 100% and it is thanks to you and only you. Kindest regards.BTW u have given you a thumbs up and subscribed to your channel. Muchos Gracias as they say in Azerbaijan!!

Thank you SO much! When I was with my teacher we were in a compact car, so it was really easy to do a 90° park for me, but since then I've had to use a mini van, which is significantly harder! This really helped me a lot

Thanks! No one ever explains how to correct yourself once you've started to actually park the car. All you ever see are perfect parking jobs.

Perfecto! You are one of the few that says how far along the other parking stalls to position yourself for easy backup without too much correction. My problem was, I didn't leave enough length & needed to pull up much forward (which if you have a car in front...hard to do) to correct my position. Merci...this was the best explaination & most simple.

This is the easiest and most practical lesson I've seen about reverse parking.
