From this video, I already learnt about design for environment(DFE) is important for the purpose of carry on industrial activities without cause pollution. For instance, global warming, solid waste, air pollution and more. For another instance, Japanese Minamata Disease become one of eight environmental pollution incident which cause by chemical factory release methyl mercury into Minamata Bay and it already damage future generation. Some place like Klang River is clean due to some industrial activities shut down during pandemic of Covid-19. Especially, it also have DFE and material guidelines for the purpose of reduce impact of product design upon environment. Furthermore, design for manufacturing (DFM) is focus on detail design decision and consider the manufacturing factor at early stage in order to achieve goals. DFM process includes estimate manufacturing cost, reduce the costs and number of components, reduce the cost of assembly and production support and consider impact of DFM and other factors.

I learned about design for environment and manufacturing. DFE is a method to minimize or eliminate environmental impacts of a product over its life cycle. DFE process 1. Set DFE Agenda, 2. Identify Potential Environmental Impacts, 3. Select Material and DFE Guidelines (PU/PVC/RUBBER/PET), 4. Apply DFE Guidelines to Initial Designs, 5. Assess Environmental Impact, 6. Refine Design, 7. Reflect on DFE Process and Results. DFE rules are recycled continually, natural materials that can be fully returned, do not produce unnatural, clean, renewable sources of energy. Five DFM process in estimate, reduce cost and consider impact of DFM factors.

*DFE provides companies with a practical method to minimize or eliminate these environmental impact
*Effective DFE maintain or improve product quality and cost while reducing environmental impact
*DFE may involve activities throughout the product development process and requires an interdisciplinary approach. Thus ID, engineering, purchasing and marketing must work together to develop an environmentally friendly products.
*DFE process consist of 7 steps
S1: set the DFE agenda: drivers, goals and team
S2: identify potential environmental impact
S3: select DFE guidelines
S4: apply the DFE guidelines to the initial product design
S5: assess the environment impact
S6: refine the product design to reduce or eliminate the environmental impact
S7: reflect on the DFE process and results
