The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle is an American twin-engine, all-weather tactical fighter aircraft designed by McDonnell Douglas (now part of Boeing). Following reviews of proposals, the United States Air Force (USAF) selected McDonnell Douglas's design in 1969 to meet the service's need for a dedicated air superiority fighter. The Eagle first flew in July 1972, and entered service in 1976. It is among the most successful modern fighters, with over 100 victories and no losses in aerial combat, with the majority of the kills by the Israeli Air Force.

Just a reminder the F15C and F15E are technically two different aircraft. They only share number designation and a similar airframe, but thats it. The F15C was made for Air Superiority and carries a perfect enemy aircraft shoot down record, while the F15E is a Strike aircraft with its main job to drop bombs on targets, with the only air to air record of a kill with a guided bomb on a airborne Mi-24.

F15 F16 F14 all late 60s early 70s designs. Other than the F14 still dominate. F14 was retired not because of lack of ability but cost and politics. Shows how far ahead US designs were still flying over 40 years later
