A growing number of institutions worldwide are fundamentally rethinking the ways in which they evaluate and reward teaching achievement. The momentum for change has grown rapidly as universities collaborate with national and global peers to drive collective reform. This presentation will chart the global advances made in reforming academic career pathways and improving the recognition of university teaching. It will also highlight findings from the 2019 Teaching Cultures Survey that captures and tracks the perceived culture and status of teaching in which over 15,500 academics participated from across 21 universities and 10 countries. It will conclude by discussing how the momentum for improving the reward of university teaching can be advanced and sustained in the context of the rapid shift to online teaching and learning resulting from COVID-19 restrictions.

Plus: Post-presentation dialogue on the topic with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Zuhainis Saad (JPT), Prof. Dr. Rosna Awang (APM), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Naziha Ahmad Azli (CIDU, UTM) and Prof. Dr. Khairiyah Mohd Yusof (SEEM).
