The Jagres will forever remind me of the beginning of my MH career. I knew nothing and was terrified to fight him lol

Do your optional quest for the herbalist. It'll increase the number of items you can cultivate, gives you new materials to use, and basically give you an endless amount of thunderbugs along with the other ingredients. Also on your mini map displays the condition of the monster.

and also if you have enough research on the monster you will see a skull bubbling on his icon if hes near death

I can’t believe this game is already three years old. I’ve beaten world twice but I’m iceborne rn

Plus having your palico equipped with the 'Plunderblade' gadget will snag you even more parts.

If you want to make more money on those trapping runs don’t forget to put on your bandit hood while you beat the monster up! :)

I have found there is another way to know. The mini map icon for the monster will show a skull if you got the monster really low most times. It likely doesn't need to be taken that low to make it start limping but you may not know otherwise if you are getting close. If you think you are cutting it close to a kill but are not sure keep an eye on the mini map. Another good way to know when to back off for a capture.

Also bottom left heart beat monitor for the monster is a good indicator if they're ready to be trapped.

As a new MH player i didn't know that and will use that method all the time now many many thanks.

The only thing I'll mention is that obtain some specific parts require you to 1. break the desired part and 2. physically carve the monster. Sometimes you can sever parts and carve the severed part seperate from the monster. But for the most part, capturing is the best route!

Carving skill increases carves, outrewarding trapping with chance. Also I think it might give different loot too, as you take from the bonus reward drop-table instead of the carve-table. So gems might be harder to get. But it does decrease the hunt time for sure

Another really useful way to farm Zenny is to grab yourself the Bandit mantle and whack on your dual blades. Picking up those additional material drops get you ALOT of trade in items. 3 to 4 runs of an investigation can net you well over 150'000 Zenny on weak targets.

if you really are out for farming items + money, your palico should also equip plunderblade youd you should use the Bandit's coat yourself. this way you maximize items + money

Quick tip to know if the monster is weak: look at the bottom left corner there's a heartbeat below the monster's icon. If it slows down or the line is getting straight, it's weak enough.

To know for sure you can trap a monster is to look at the icon on the map/mini map once you see skulls on the icon it’s your opportunity to let it sleep, traq it twice then set trap

For weakening monsters, pay attention to their pod drops. When the 2nd pod breaks from the monster then it's ready for capture(for the majority as this doesn't seem to be the case when fighting Jyuratodus).

Crazy how you explained capturing better than anyone else That has tried to explain it to me on YouTube. Where to get things, how to make them, etc. very helpful for someone who is new like me

You can also check its condition on the mini map in the bottom left corner. Flashing red is low on health, and skulls coming off it means that it's eligible to be captured

You do get more items from capture, but only about four items. The rest of the bonus items are from breaking parts. As other comments, and videos on this channel, and other sources have explained, you can maximize your rewards by:
-Using the two piece armor bonus from Legiana and the three piece bonus from Kirin
-Equipping the Plunderblade Palico gadget
-Acquire the secondary beer meal buff, either for carving or rewards
-Breaking all parts possible before capturing
-Capture the monster

I really should have looked into it first before trying to catch a monster myself. I just knocked it out with my hammer and shot it with the net over and over screaming at my game about how it's not working! xD Actually doing it right seems much more productive!
