And the Lord preserved David wherever he went.

He is near His children and keeps watch, and it is by His hands that we receive blessings.

God is magnified when we emulate His character and follow through on promises or commitments. In 2 Sam 9:5, even though perhaps no one else heard David’s promise to Jonathan that he’d protect his descendants, David brings his son Mephibosheth into his home. God wants me to live out my marriage and my friendships this way, too: those little promises must be daily commitments to follow God’s example of faithfulness.

Wow!!! That was a very powerful GodShot Tara.

Flesh and blood didn't reveal that to you but the spirit of the living God.

Wow! That's why David was regarded as a man after God's heart.

He is where the Joy is.

Note that 2 Sam 8:18 reads "and David's sons were kohanim/priests, " which would have been illegal per Levitical rules. This passage is updated in 1 Chronicles 18:17 in order to conform with the Levitical rules (written most likely after the Exile) and now reads "And the sons of David were chiefs at the king's side."

We see a lot of David’s military battles.
Chronicles leaves out some of the more personal details of David. It shows more of the covenant fulfillment God made to David. More of a news story.
2 Samuel gives us more of a personal view into David’s life.
David’s victories are given by God. Victories are God’s to give. It is because of God’s plan and favor that David wins, not his own abilities.
David gives glory to God. He dedicates gifts he receives to the Lord and gives them to Him and the people.
We see David hamstrung ( or some versions say castrated ) some horses. This makes the horses unable to be used in battle. In Deuteronomy 17 there was a command given that the king should not acquire too many horses.
That could potentially cause the king to trust in himself and not God.
David appoints reputable leaders and conducts himself with dignity.
David keeps his promise to Jonathan to be kind to his family. David honors God by honoring his word.
Jonathan’s son is brought into David’s home to live and be cared for all his life.
In the same way God cares for us with such tenderness and intention because of His son. All the work is done for us. We get to live in His kingdom and eat at His table always. God’s love seeks us out.

The story of David and Mephibosheth was also my God shot. It touched me deeply to the point of tears. ❤

I love the Mephibosheth story. It's such a beautiful display of why David was a man after God's own heart. However, my God shot is that God gave David victory wherever he went. David didn't trust in his military might, though he could have since he had acquired so many soldiers & much military equipment. Isreal expanded to its largest size ever under God's guiding hand leading a man who listened to him in every way in military matters (we know he faltered & sinned, but he always came back to God). It makes me think of Isreal today. We know that God will not let His land be taken away from them or divided again. He is coming back to them to fulfill His original covenant that He has never broken (which, hallelujah, means Jesus is coming for His Church SOON!!). However, right now, we see Isreal relying on their military might & allies to win battles, when they should be trusting in Him completely. He is where the victory lies. He is the one to whom it belongs! We know through prophecies in Scripture that God will bring them back to Him through victories that could come through no other means but Him! They, & the world, we're told in Scripture, will know that those victories came from Him bc enemies will slaughter each other bc they're thrown into a panic (sound familiar from our readings so far?!), be swallowed up by earthquakes, etc. God is a victory-giving, covenant-keeping God who is going to fulfill all of prophecy soon in order to save a remnant of Isreal in the last days. We're almost there. We can see it unfolding right before our eyes. No matter how secular Isreal's leadership (many, but all) & the nation itself was in the past or is now, God has & will keep His covenant. He will give the victory when their eyes return to Him. That goes for us too! He's where the victory & the joy are!
