A Line in the Snow - Greece

"Skiing in Greece? Really?" was the usual response when we said where we were going. With a desperate lack of snow in the Alps we were looking as far away as Morocco and Nepal for inspiration. We had been told that there was good snow in Greece, but we didn't quite believe it. With just five days planning we headed to Greece to explore the beautiful mountains of the north and meet the people that live and work there.

As a matter of fact. Greece has together with Italy the most Ultra prominence peaks in Europe. Switzerland has 8 Ultra peaks, Austria 12, Greece 19, and Italy 20. 80% of Greece is mountainous. So Greece is a perfect winter destination, or any kind of destination. It has practically everything, from Alpine mountains all the way to the only natural palmforests in Europe and everything inbetween. It even has one small desert on Limnos, and volcano's, many other-worldly geological formations and one of the most natural hotsprings om the planet with 800 natural hotsprings. And if you look at what Greece has in relation to it's size, then Greece is absolutely incredibly diverse.

Okay, now I want to go splitboarding in Greece. That is amazing how it is untouched by cable cars, heli touring, and ski resorts. It looks so natural!
