Mary - Mother of God | (Oh Mary, Mother of God) | #mothermary | Feast of Mother Mary | FACTS DECODED
The Feast of Mary, the Mother of God, is a fitting way to start the new year. This feast reminds us that the Blessed Virgin Mary, God's Mother, is also our Heavenly Mother. As a result, our ideal New Year's resolution should be "Through Mary to Jesus!"
This is an opportunity to rekindle our devotion to Mary, Mother of the Church, for she is our spiritual mother - and we are the Church. Pope Paul VI established the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God in 1970. "This festival, allocated to Jan. 1 in accordance with the ancient liturgy of the city of Rome, is designed to honour the part played by Mary in this mystery of redemption," he wrote in his encyclical on devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Marialis Cultus. "This celebration, assigned to Jan. 1 in conformity with the ancient liturgy of the city of Rome, is meant to commemorate the part played by Mary in this mystery of salvation. It is meant also to exalt the singular dignity which this mystery brings to the holy Mother … through whom we were found worthy … to receive the Author of life." - Pope Paul VI .
The solemnity depicts Jesus' love with Mary. It is a beautiful illustration of how we should revere Mary under all of her names, and it serves as a solid foundation for our understanding of Mary's role in Christology. The Church celebrates this solemnity on the first day of the New Year to underline the importance of Mary's role in Christ's and the Church's lives. The numerous saints are commemorated on different days of the year, but Mary is the most renowned of them all. God has given her a specific role and duty. She reigns as Queen alongside Christ the King as the Mother of our Redeemer and the Redeemed.
She is a powerful intercessor for all of our earthly needs. In commemorating her unique feast day, we recognise her enormous gift to the Church and the world; we invite her to be actively engaged in our everyday lives; we emulate her virtuous life as a great inspiration; and we collaborate with all the graces we get through her.
