Argentina elects right-wing populist Javier Milei as president

Argentina has elected a right-wing populist known as "el Loco" (the Madman) as its new president.

Javier Milei, a self-described anarcho-capitalist who has been compared to former US president Donald Trump, promised to deal with Argentina's soaring inflation and rising poverty.

This guy is the best thing that has happened to Argentina in decades. The country has been devastated by socialism causing inflation of over 100%, over 40% living in poverty. Hopefully they will get their freedom and their country back with this guys appointment.

I can't help but be skeptical after having lived through the 90s. Menem's first presidency went well, he stopped inflation, the industry rebounded, he privatized everything, Menem appeared in Caras magazine and they even called Cavallo from Russia. Euphoria and hype and we were going to Miami. And then The Model fell into reality. Argentina does not export anything of value, investments do not come, everything is imported, the industry cannot compete with China, among other things, and everything goes to hell again. I don't see how this time will be different.
