Having come to my senses a little, I jumped out of my chair and ran to the front door. I opened it and went outside, everything was exactly the same as near our rented house, only without the snow. This house was the only one around. I quickly ran back into the house, and then into the cellar, and from there I climbed another staircase to the house where Elizabeth was waiting for me. But here it was all the same, winter and a snowstorm outside the window. I locked the cellar door and covered it with the carpet again. I sat down on the floor by the fireplace. I was silent. Elizabeth saw the fear in my eyes and began asking questions about what happened and why I was so pale. Little by little, in a quick and trembling voice, I told her in detail what I saw behind that door in the cellar. At first, Elizabeth didn’t believe me, but only suggested that I lie down to rest and made berry tea. I fell asleep, and when I woke up, I found that Elizabeth was not in the house. I quickly rushed to the cellar door, because I thought that Elizabeth had gone there to make sure of my words. But the door was still closed, and the carpet lay on top of it. " To be continued...
