This reminds me of a story I read back in the 1970's by Larry Niven called Ringworld. This circle completely connected around the star in the center. You had areas completely unknown to other areas that were impossible distances away. You could see the band of this world rising on both sides disappearing into the distance. The only problem with this world is the substrate strength. It would need to be 5 x's stronger than steel to withstand the forces of it turning at Earth speed to orbit the sun. The problem arises with holding the atmosphere onto the rings surface. Very high mountains blocked the air from escaping over the sides. The problem arises because of orbital dynamics as the mountains were higher or closer to the star the mountain tops would orbit the sun at a slightly smaller speed, or if you prefer a higher speed than the ring around the sun, causing a torqueing force to the substrate many times stronger than steel could hold.

It would have to be a gyro space station several hundred meters diameter. The floor would be the outside wall. There would be a central main engine, commanders lodge, of which anyone manning that, would have zero gravity, and then the centrifugal force would build as they moved back to the main hall, at which they would feel like they had normal gravity. But you would still want to work out at the gym.
