The UK’s first “teacherless” class, using artificial intelligence instead of human teachers, is about to start.

David Game College, a private school in London, opens its new teacherless course for 20 GCSE students in September.

So rather then having 1 teacher, they will have 3 and just call them learning coaches which are underpaid

As a person who works on this field, this overhype on AI is getting out of control by people who don’t understand what AI is capable of

This idea can work to assist learning but not replace teachers as a whole .

The educational system is so broken and non-functioning at the moment that any change is welcome and can't make iit any worse than it already is.

Misuse & Mental health risk is more than the potential benefits.

Teaching is all about motivation. That comes through human connection. Learners want to be listened to, to be supported, nurtured and guided.

The teacher being a "sage on the stage" was always problematic as no teacher knew and understood enough. The teacher as "guide on the side" was improbable with too many students in the classroom. BF Skinner defined teaching as "facilitating learning." Finally, all students can learn from multiple private tutors, an opportunity only the wealthy and privileged had in the past. It's about equity. It's about time!

AI and robotics cannot substitute for physical learning which only a human teacher can provide where there is an interactive learning session.

No good. We are humans and need humans and interact with humans!!

Ah, a private college salivating at the prospect of getting rid of it's expensive teachers. Having a teacher physically present will always be the gold standard. Now, replacing school management with AI is definitely something worth looking at.

During Covid everyone learned from home and we all discovered that it didn’t work. Learning from a computer online is not a substitute for a real teacher. Good luck !

I can't believe they think this is a good idea. AI can be useful for aiding teachers, for the series of reasons they mention in the video, but it should not replace actual teachers.

It looks like lots of people are about to be out of work. 75 to 85% teachers are women.
Women will be disproportionately affected by this.

When learning something that (at the moment) is too difficult, we tend to tune out. When learning something that is too easy, we get bored and tune out. The ideal learning is near the edge of what we can manage. It will focus the brain, lead to "flow". AI will know where your "edge" is. And virtual reality will enhance learning even further. I love this. Hope it will come to all schools.

Doing it in VR with no distractions, they’re onto something there.
