Growing On Twitch can be INCREDIBLY difficult, especially when there are so many ways that you can accidentally lose viewers! In fact, it is incredibly easy to lose viewers while streaming and it can happen for all sorts of reasons!

That is why today I am covering 7 reasons you'll lose viewers while streaming.

After working 1 to 1 with Twitch Streamers to help them grow in the Stream Scheme Discord, I realized how some creator's mindsets are really setting themselves up to either be disappointed or even worse, grow a little bit… and then make one of these mistakes and lose viewers and the problem is I made some of these early on and saw drops in my viewership but have learned from them.

How To Grow On Twitch!

If you want to grow your Twitch stream, it is important to be critical. Being critical isn’t a bad thing, people say, “Oh don’t be so critical of yourself!”.

But there are a lot of things you can control and improve, such as your visuals, audio, and most importantly your content that you’re creating. Watch back your VoD and be honest with yourself, is it up to scratch. Does your mic sound good? Are you engaging? Is it easy to watch and enjoy or is there something that is off-putting? Be honest, push yourself to grow, and become a better entertainer!

Because at the end of the day, the only way you are going to grow your stream is by growing yourself and being critical in a positive way.

There are a lot of reasons you shouldn't mimic larger creators but the major one is that...

You aren’t the exception! Well, you might be but you shouldn’t base your decisions on thinking you are!

Every single video there is always one comment that says something along the lines of, “Lol…bad video, why would I do that tip? Have you never watched *insert giant streamer* he never does that”

If you look at the largest creators and don’t carefully consider how they actually grew and why they can do things they do, you’ll be setting yourself up to fail.

You and I, we have to put some serious effort in because we are trying to grow in an industry that is established, that is oversaturated. We need to do every single thing we can to stand out, that means having a webcam so people see us in the thumbnail, having catchy titles, playing discoverable categories, and so much more.

The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

As a person who was a lurker before streaming... Thank you for telling people to stop calling out lurkers... Being called out feels like when you get called for a recitation in class.

I’m so sick of these know-it-all YouTubers telling me I can’t grow by sitting in a hot tub like Amouranth JUST because I’m a slightly overweight 39 year old dude.

I lurk myself in some streams, lurkers are just as much as a support as an active chatter! I once was a regular viewer on a stream that suddenly started complaining that her chat was not active enough and blaming it on the lurkers. I was so suprised, I mean, the people who are watching you could have picked anyone else but they chose you. Always be thankfull of your lurkers! :)

I started streaming 2 weeks ago. 10 streams in and I levelled up to an affiliate. Which was shocking I didn’t expect it happen too soon. And I had been streaming working on a concept design (ux/ui). I have many lurkers and I remember somebody said that I have many lurkers. I just said “that’s ok to lurk, as long they enjoy what I am doing”. After that a couple of lurkers started talking in chat ❤️

I lurk all the time and being called out sucks, because when streamers do this chatting feels like a chore.

I'd like to say a massive thank you! I started streaming a few months ago and it was your videos that helped push me to where I am now, I constantly tell people about your videos and actually gave someone your youtube channel and twitch channel last night as they were feeling down and useless at streaming. It was your small goals scheme that helped me carry on. keep up the good work buddy!

Why would lurkers upset anyone? They choose to listen to you in their background instead of another streamer or some multimillion dollar HBO show.

Lurkings a huge compliment

I have to say that we greatly appreciate all of the videos made for those who are trying to get better each stream. From the tech help (wed cams, audio, microphones), to Thumbnails and titles.. Thank you. It always helps us!

Needed this video, my average has been tanking and you hit the nail on the head with almost every point except calling out lurkers which is crazy of people to do. I got away from what was making people want to hang out and tried emulate what the larger creators are doing now, and people stopped hanging out. Now that I've seen this, I'll go back to what was "working" and just try to upload to youtube more. Thanks for the content as always!

Your audio is SO important! If your volume is not balanced or super staticky, then your viewership is not going to grow, and people are going to leave quickly. I’ve had so many streams that go below 5 average viewers when I was doing 13 average last stream playing the same game at the same time. Every time, it was some kind of audio issue, whether my game volume was super low, my microphone was super wobbly, or you could hear an obnoxious fan in the background.

Thank you for being honest with all these tips. It's nice to hear the bitter truth rather than a sugar coated response like "it's just not your time to shine yet"

Quit my job to be a content creator on twitch, super terrified going forward after my first 2 weeks now. But your tips really help and its good to know that there's people struggling with the same things you are, and that there are ways to overcome it.

Thank you :)

I can’t tell you how much I love your content. You are incredibly knowledgeable and all the advice you give is definitely some of the most overlooked but important

Huh, I honestly thought it was common knowledge to be kind to your lurkers? I always make sure to thank people when they lurk cause even tho they're not talking they may be watching or at the very least have my number up a bit and helping me discover wise. These are amazing tips as usual and imma try to keep these in mind

Wait people actually call out lurkers? I never encountered that. Everyone always thanked and appreciated lurkers because they stayed on the channel...
Thanks for the video, Eljay. Good tips as always :)

I think your point on not be over confident but at the same time having the confidence to say that what you do is worth watching, is really inspirational. I'm a small streamer online and your videos have helped me think outside the box on a lot of things especially when talking to no viewers in stream. It helps a lot thank you.

I’m glad you pointed out the lurker thing! It’s a pet peeve of mine.

There were streamers (friends) that I liked to listen to while I’m doing stuff, or just wanted to lurk to give them an extra view but then THEY ADDED A BOT THAT CALLS PEOPLE OUT WHEN PEOPLE JOIN THE STREAM. And they’d try to start a conversation with me when I’d show up so I stopped going into their streams.
